Male Rhinoplasty

Written by Rohit Shetty

In the earlier days, it was a stigma for a man to go through any kind of face alteration surgeries. It hurt their manhood. But in the modern days of equality, cosmetic surgery among man is growing in popularity, and Rhinoplasty is the most requested form of cosmetic surgery.

Revision Rhinoplasty is a type of rhinoplasty where the patients go through the surgical procedure just to refine the shape of the nose more, or sometimes to correct errors which has happened due to a previous surgery. Normal statistics say, among all the people who go through a nose job, only 10 to 15% of them go for a revision rhinoplasty. But, these stats change when it comes to men. The numbers increase dramatically when we consider the number of patients who go for a revision rhinoplasty. In fact, in some of the more challenging surgeries such as, ethnic rhinoplasty, where the main aim of the surgeon is to surgically curve out the ideal nose, but keeping in mind that the ethnicity of the person is maintained, the expectancy of a revision rhinoplasty is more. Since, ethnic rhinoplasty is more surgically tougher to carry out, often it gives rise to depression and dissatisfaction among patients. Hence, if a male patient has an ethnic heritage to maintain, and still go through a rhinoplasty, there is a high probability that, they will require a revision rhinoplasty.

For surgeons out there, who are experienced in rhinoplasty, a male nose is tougher to operate to than a female nose. Since, male nose needs a subtle change to look good, over operating on a male nose, would make the patient look more girly, or they might not like it at all. Nose job in its totality, should be done according to the rule of ‘less is more’, where a subtle change always looks good, than an overly-emphatic change, which will change the face on its whole. A man’s nose needs a very subtle change, and the main aim of a male rhinoplasty should be to omit some of the undesirable features of the nose, such as an over-pronounced dorsal hump.

Once you decide to get your nose job done, the next thing which you need to think about is the surgeon. Finding a surgeon is the most important part about doing a rhinoplasty. When you are searching for one, make sure that they are certified by some certifying board, which actually proves their expertise. Every board have got different requirement to get certification. Some of the best certification boards are, ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) and the ABFPRS (American Board of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery).

Also, make sure that you research on the clinic beforehand. Most of the clinic that you will be looking in to, has got their own websites, which would be featuring the differences in the facial structure of the patient before and after the surgery. Make sure that the clinic has catered to a large number of people, of all ethnicities and genders.

Once you have decided on the clinic and the surgeon that you want to go to, the next step is to book an appointment, which is generally free or sometimes can be paid. The doctor will listen to your expectations and then help you make a decision. Oleh Slupchynskyj is a rhinoplasty surgeon based in New York. Call him to know more.
